Kick-Off meeting
We are excited to share that the SPP2419 HyCAM Kick-Off Meeting was successfully held on the October 4–5, 2023 at Novotel Aachen City, Aachen, Germany. It was a great opportunity for all the SPP2419 HyCAM members to come together, present their projects, align their goals and set the stage for successful research collaborations.
All principal investigators (PI), Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers, and the Mercator Fellow, Dr. -Ing. Andrea Gruber, had insightful discussions, established clear objectives, and fostered a strong sense of teamwork and enthusiasm among all participants.
Stay tuned for updates on our progress!
1st Annual SPP2419 HyCAM Project Meeting
The 1st Annual SPP2419 HyCAM Meeting was held on October 7–8, 2024, in Aachen at RWTH Aachen University.
Researchers and Principal Investigators from Combustion Science and Additive Manufacturing working on the ten different research projects of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – German Research Foundation HyCAM Priority Program gathered for a two-day scientific exchange aimed at strengthening cross-project collaboration.
The Mercator Research Fellow of DFG SPP 2419 HyCAM, Prof. Dr. Andrea Gruber, from the Faculty of Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, gave an inspiring seminar entitled: “Direct Numerical Simulation in Fundamental and Applied Combustion Research: Challenges and Opportunities.”
The presentations were both inspiring and intellectually stimulating, sparking lively open discussions. A poster exhibition offered further opportunities to delve into the topics explored during the sessions. The event concluded with a guided tour of the laboratories of the Institute for Combustion Technology, RWTH Aachen University (ITV).

2nd Annual SPP2419 HyCAM Project Meeting
The 2nd Annual Meeting of the DFG Priority Program SPP 2419 – HyCAM: Hydrogen Combustion for Advanced Manufacturing – was successfully held on October 22–23, 2025, at the Parkhotel Quellenhof Aachen. Bringing together researchers and Principal Investigators from the fields of combustion science and additive manufacturing, the meeting showcased the continued momentum and collaborative spirit across the program’s ten research projects.
Over the two days, participants exchanged their latest results, explored emerging challenges, and identified new opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation. The scientific program opened with a keynote lecture by the Mercator Research Fellow, Prof. Dr. Andrea Gruber (SINTEF), who offered an engaging seminar on Recent Advances and Challenges for Clean and Efficient Carbon-Free Combustion in Power Generation. The talk provided valuable perspectives for the researchers as it advances hydrogen-based technologies.
The second day featured a presentation from Prof. Simone Hochgreb (University of Cambridge) on Experimental Measurements for Hydrogen and Blend Combustion and the Role of Thermodiffusive Instabilities. Ms. Simonetta Batteiger followed with an insightful contribution, Diversity as a Driver of Collaboration and Outcomes: Reflections and Future Directions for the HyCAM Project. All the presentations inspired lively discussions and a vibrant exchange of ideas among participants.
A poster exhibition accompanied the plenary sessions, giving participants additional space for technical discussion and networking. These interactions highlighted the program’s vibrant research environment and helped foster new connections across disciplines.
The meeting concluded with a strong sense of shared purpose and enthusiasm, reinforcing HyCAM’s commitment to advancing hydrogen-based combustion and manufacturing technologies through collaborative, high-quality research.
